Ring Description / /
Platinum “twist” solitaire ring set with a heirloom diamond. Diamond measurement is 6.5 mm round, with an alloy purity of 95%.
Project Notes / /
Breaking away from a traditional solitaire, this ring shank features a twisted style to give the ring a bit more depth and character. The center prongs were custom-made to accommodate the diamond size. This project was a fun one for me because I love working with platinum. There’s something about the way it obeys a goldsmith, whereas gold can be a lot more finicky. Not only is platinum very easy to work with from goldsmith’s point of view, it is also a very reliable metal for the person wearing the ring.
Why Platinum? / /
Platinum has many characteristics that make it excellent for jewelry. Consider the following:
- Platinum is hypoallergenic meaning it is usually safe to wear for those with metal allergies.
- Platinum is very strong and durable. This is ideal for diamond and gemstone settings. It’s alloy strength usually uses up to 95% pure platinum.
- Platinum seldom tarnishes. Unlike silver and other metals, platinum is mostly tarnish-resistant.
